SEXSMITH, A.B. – The Fort St. John Huskies didn’t start the season the way they were hoping after falling to the Sexsmtih Vipers on Saturday night.

The Vipers were quick to capitalize on the inexperience of the Huskies’ special teams, scoring their first goal shorthanded, and their 2nd several minutes later on the power play after Gary Loewen took 2 and a ten for head contact.

Things started to level out for the teams in the 2nd, with the Huskies outshooting the Vipers 21-11. Brandon Howard and Jason Baron both ended up dropping the gloves, netting them each 5 minutes.

The swing in momentum seemed to help the Huskies, who finally got on the board 8:35 into the third on a Drew Fudger powerplay goal assisted by Wyatt Griffiths and Tyson Leard. Sadly, the lone goal wasn’t enough for the pups, who fell to the snakes 2-1.

The Huskies are on the road this coming weekend for a pair of games in Peace River on Friday night, and Fairview on Saturday night.
