New terrorism charges against Fort St. John man

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Othman Ayed Hamdan appeared by video link Friday in a Vancouver courtroom.  The six original charges of terrorism related charges have now been dropped and replaced with four new federal charges.

According to the CBC Vancouver, Hamdan is now charged with counseling the commission of the offence of murder at the direction of or in association with a terrorist group.  He is also charged with counselling assault causing bodily harm, mischief and directing a person to carry out a terrorist activity.


Hamdan was charged after posts he allegedly made to social media between September 2014 and July 2015. Hamdan was arrested in Fort St. John in July of 2015.

A publication ban has been ordered on evidence and information provided in the case.  His next court appearance is set for October 6, 2016 in Vancouver.
