GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – According to police in Grande Prairie, they believe the shooter and the victim knew each other in some way from Thursday nights shooting. This news coming from a story by 2DayFM.
The victim of the shooting was airlifted to a Edmonton Hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
There were also 2 bystanders grazed by the bullet. Initial reports suggested there were only 2 victims. RCMP have apologized for the mistake.
Superintendent John Ferguson says it was not a random attack.
“This was not random; we feel that there is a connection between the victim and the person that we have an interest in and believe committed the crime. In that sense, I don’t think there’s any fear that we have someone just sort of running around shooting at people.”
Police are now combing through security video from the mall and talking to the many witnesses that were on scene.
Ferguson also said that incidents like this don’t happen a lot in Grande Prairie, and that they have not had an incident like this at the mall, ever.
The Prairie Mall released a statement via twitter this morning.
“We can confirm that there was a incident at our centre late Thursday. Grande Prairie RCMP were summoned and, together with our management and onsite security, decided to close the centre early to facilitate the investigation.
The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority. Our thoughts are with those who were injured or inconvenienced as the result of Thursday’s events.
Normal operations will resume today. Questions specifically on the investigation should be addressed to Grande Prairie RCMP.”Advertisement
