FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Flyers could have a new permanent facility from which to serve alcoholic beverages within the next year.

At Monday’s Fort St. John city council meeting, council approved a recommendation from staff that would allow them to enter talks with the Flyers to build a permanent kiosk in the northeast corner of the North Peace Arena’s mezzanine.

The city’s Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Ross de Boer said that he was approached by the Flyers back in August about the construction of a permanent kiosk for beverage sales. De Boer said that a meeting was held between Flyers officials and city staff, along with officials from the Liquor Licensing Authority, who did not raise any concerns. The team has been offering beverage sales at certain games through special event liquor licenses.

De Boer added that the city will meet with the team to formalise a lease agreement with the team for the kiosk, as well as an agreement on an agreement of which party will take care of construction costs, before finding and approving a contractor. He said that the kiosk could be up and running within a year.
