FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The following recommendation was passed at a recent City Council meeting regarding the boundary extension financial impacts on the PRRD.

“THAT, Administration Report No. 200/16 – 2016 Boundary Extension – Peace River Regional District Potential Financial Impacts be received for information, AND FURTHER THAT, it is acknowledged that due to the ongoing rural fire protection agreement negotiations, the financial impacts, if any, for the Peace River Regional District are unknown at this time.”

The City notes that: “The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development’s municipal boundary extension process guide requires a municipality and regional district to enter into a consultation process regarding potential financial impacts to the regional district if land is incorporated. If the financial or
service impacts are significant, mitigation measures should be agreed to.”

A report will be going to both the PRRD and City Council to provide an update on the impacts financially. Those financial updates cannot be decided on at this time as there are a number of factors that are still being negotiated when it comes to rural fire protection.
