GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – Police in Grande Prairie are investigating a serious collision that took the life of a man on Highway 2 after a semi truck struck a jeep.

The accident happened on Highway 2 at the 100 Avenue access to Clairmont.

At around 5:45 this morning, RCMP as well as other emergency responders were called to a scene of the collision.

Police say the jeep was travelling West bound on 100th Avenue out of Clairmont and allegedly didn’t stop for the red light at the Highway 2 intersection. The semi truck was going North bound on Highway 2 and struck the driver’s side of the jeep.  The driver of the jeep, a 68-year-old man from Barrhead Alberta, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital where he passed away. The semi truck driver, a 40-year-old Grande Prairie man was not injured in the crash.

Highway 2 was closed until 12:00 pm this afternoon.  Police are continuing to investigate.
