FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Though a heavy snowfall warning was in effect for most of Friday and Saturday, that didn’t deter nearly 300 joggers from getting out the glowsticks and hitting the trails near Surerus Fields on Saturday evening.
The first annual Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s 5k Firefly Walk/Run was a huge success despite the wintery weather. Jessica Kalman with the foundation said that of the 400 runners that had signed up, just over 270 ended up starting on Saturday evening at 8:00. Kalman says that despite the snow, everyone had a fantastic time and took the inclement weather in stride.
Though she was able to provide a final tally, Kalman added that over $9,000 was raised for the Hospital Foundation. Organisers are already excited about next year’s event, but hope that no new snowfall records are broken.
