FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The project that would see construction of 87 km of new gas pipeline was given conditional approval today from the National Energy Board.

The NEB released a report saying that they recommend that the GIC (Governor in Council) approve the application from NOVA Gas for the Towerbirch Expansion Project with conditions.

The recommendations come from a public hearings that began on December 22, 2015 when the NEB made the decision that the application was complete.

The project now is subject to the Government of Canada’s interim measures for pipeline reviews.

Interim measures may include:

  • Undertaking deeper consultation with Indigenous peoples.
  • Facilitating further public engagement.
  • Assessing the upstream greenhouse gas emissions associated with this project.

The GIC will then be able to consider the NEB report and the information that comes from the interim measures and then make a decision whether or not to issue a certificate for the project.
