Peace Region residents encouraged to voice concerns over potential fire dispatch changes

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With the decision whether or not the fire dispatch services will stay in the Peace Region not made yet, one Fort St. John City Councillor is encouraging residents to voice concerns.

Byron Stewart says that residents are encouraged to contact the Peace River Regional District and state concerns that they may have over the potential changes.

“Our next PRRD meeting is scheduled for October 27th and I expect this item to be again on our agenda. I think the residents throughout the Peace Region should have a voice on this matter and make it as clear as possible to the board any concerns they may have regarding the loss of this service which has been and is currently located in the Peace.”
Fire dispatch services currently reside in the Peace Region but the Peace River Regional District is looking at potentially moving those services elsewhere if the board votes to do so. The services could be potentially moved to the Lower Mainland.
The decision was apparently made before the board decided to go back into a closed door meeting to discuss the matter further at the last PRRD meeting, something Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman has voiced displeasure over saying she doesn’t believe the issue needs to be in a closed meeting and should be in a public meeting.
