Search called off for man suspected to have drowned near Fort Ware

FORT WARE, B.C. – The search has been called off for a man suspected to have drowned in the Finlay River last weekend after he and two companions were thrown from a boat.

On Sunday, three men were floating down the Finlay River when the boat they were in hit a log jam and flipped the men into the river. Two of the men were able to swim to shore, however the third man was last seen floating down the river.

Members of the North Peace Search and Rescue were called out to assist members of the Tsay Keh Dene RCMP, a swift water team from Vanderhoof, and a Department of Fisheries boat at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday when the man failed to reappear.

Cst. Madonna Saunderson with the North District RCMP told Energeticcity.ca that while the search continued yesterday, the man was presumed to have drowned in the river. Saunderson confirmed this morning that unless new information is brought forward to police, the search has officially been called off as of dusk last night.
