FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Senior Flyers continued their perfect streak in North Peace Hockey League action last night.
Hosting the Sr. Canucks from Dawson Creek, the Canucks were the ones that actually scored first with 2:09 left in the first period.
The Flyers though managed to get some bounces going their way in the second. Just past the halfway mark, Rick Cleaver got the Flyers on the board to tie things up with a powerplay goal assisted by Adam Horst. Brennen Giroux gave Fort St John the go-ahead just before the 15 minute mark assisted by John Bruha and Robbie Sidhu. Less than a minute later, Cleaver scored his second of the night assisted by Tyler Money to give the Flyers some insurance going into the third period.
It turned into a special teams slugfest for both teams early in the frame. Dawson Creek scored a powerplay goal less than five minutes in, but Cleaver got a hat-trick with a pwoerplay goal of his own less than a minute later to keep it a 2-goal lead. Though the Sr. Canucks would score once again, Giroux added another powerplay goal, his second of the game, assisted by Austin Braid and Sidhu. With 14 seconds left, Cleaver sealed the deal with a final tally on a feed from Jeff Shipton to give the Flyers a 6-3 victory.
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday night, when they host Valleyview Jets at the North Peace Arena. Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.
