Flyers win 14-4 over Valleyview

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Flyers kept their season-perfect NPHL record this past Saturday night when they hosted the Valleyview Jets.

Adam Horst got the Flyers going early, scoring just 50 seconds into the first frame to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Jeff Shipton and Rick Cleaver tallied assists. Cole Calliou then scored a pair of goals midway through the first assisted by Tyler Loney and Daylen Pearson to make it a 3-0 game. Vallewview finally found the back of the Flyers’ net with 3:27 left to cut the lead to 3-1 after twenty minutes.

In the second period, things started to go completely off the rails for Valleyview as Fort St. John scored seven unanswered goals. Cody Hildebrand opened the second period scoring drive, assisted by Taylor Greateux just over thirty seconds in. Dan Pappin, Daylen Pearson, Rick Cleaver, Josh Bruha, Jeff Shipton, and Adam Horst each scored in the period. Cleaver had three assists, Horst, Shipton, and Shawn Holliday had two assists each, while Hildebrand, Brennan Giroux and Robbie Sidhu each had one. Valleyview added another goal in the final minute, but the Flyers headed to the dressing room with a 10-2 lead after forty.

The Jets did manage to generate a bit of offence in the third, scoring a pair of goals near the frame’s halfway mark, before Fort St, John again opened the floodgates. Josh Bruha scored unassisted on the powerplay 25 seconds after Valleyview’s fourth, Brennan Giroux also had a goal with the man advantage, while Calliou completed his hat-trick and Shipton scored his second to give the Flyers a 14-4 win.

The Flyers are back on home ice on Thursday night when they host Spirit River at the NPA. Puck drop is at 8:30.
