GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – The North Peace Secondary’s Senior Boys and Senior Girls basketball teams were in Grande Prairie last weekend for a tournament at the Regional College.

The Senior Girls played a pair of exciting games in the round robin. The girls demolished High Level in Game One 79-4, and won their second game against the Peace Wapiti Titans 52-44. In the semifinals, the girls sadly lost a close match against Charles Spender 48-42 to advance to the Bronze Medal game. Taking on Heinz Creek, the girls convincingly won the game 55-43.

The Senior Boys also competed at the same tournament. The boys faced Holy Redeemer High School from Edson in their first game of the tournament, winning 83- 62, and beating Grande Prairie Composite 94- 61 in Game 2. In the semis, the boys’ fortunes were identical to the girls’ as they lost to Ron Pettigrew 85-69.

Despite the loss, the boys went on to trounce St. Joseph’s from Whitecourt in the Bronze game 98- 67 to finish in third place out of 16 teams.

Tanner Sandberg was named to the tournament All Star team averaging 25 points per game. Standouts included Lorenzo Petrucci with eighteen points and four steals per game. Brett Olsen averaged 10 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Both the Senior Boys and Senior Girls basketball teams are off the St. Albert this weekend for their second tournament of the year.
