UPDATE: School District 60 school bus dispatcher Terry Cowles says that all school buses serving the North Peace are running, with the exception of two. Cowles says that the school buses serving the Upper Pine School in the Montney area on Routes 54 and 58 failed to start this morning.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – School District 59 has cancelled all school buses serving schools in the South Peace this morning.

SD 59  Transportation Manager Keith Trail says that District officials decided to cancel all school buses due to the cold temperatures. Trail says that the cancellations are due to the District’s policy of not running school buses at or below -35 degrees. He explained that the policy is a precautionary measure, as there’s no guarantee that the school buses won’t have problems below those temperatures, and that the District doesn’t want to risk having students stranded in the cold.

At this time, there’s no word yet on whether or not school buses in the North Peace have been affected by the cold temperatures. We’ll have an update on the status of School District 60 buses once the District transportation office opens at 7:00 a.m.
