VICTORIA, B.C. – Yellowhead Road and Bridge’s North Peace division has won this year’s Deputy Transportation Minister’s Contractor of the Year Award of Excellence in the maintenance category.
The Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Award of Excellence recognizes construction and maintenance companies demonstrating excellence in the categories of grading, paving, bridges and structures, safety innovation, and highway maintenance work throughout the province. The 14th annual awards were hosted by the B.C. Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association on Friday, December 2nd in Victoria.
“Congratulations to Yellowhead Road and Bridge for this well-deserved award,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone. “The company maintains a very large service area with particularly challenging weather and road conditions. This recognition highlights the excellent work they do year-round to keep northern roads and highways safe and efficient for British Columbians and visitors.”
The area serviced by YRB consists of approximately 3,500 kilometres of road and 76 bridges. In addition to providing excellence in highway road and bridge maintenance, this spring the company was faced with a 3,000-hectare wildfire that burned through the Peace region. With the June flooding, they were quick to respond to many washout sites throughout the Peace to get highways and side roads open.
Along with their commitment to providing safety on B.C.’s roads, Yellowhead Road and Bridge participates in various community activities and volunteers their time, expertise and equipment for projects that benefit local residents and improve community infrastructure.
The other finalist in the maintenance category was Mainroad South Island Contracting LP, which services southern Vancouver Island.
