City of Dawson Creek to receive Congressional Gold Medal as part of Alaska Highway celebrations

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – John Hart of the First Special Service Force Association will present the City of Dawson Creek with the Congressional Gold Medal on Thursday, July 20 in front of the Alaska Highway House as part of Tourism Dawson Creek’s celebration of the Alaska Highway turning 75.

Dawson Creek will also witness the Western Command Military Vehicle Historical Society convoy as it masses to start its historic journey up the highway to Alaska. (Residents in Fort St. John can see the convoy on July 21st at the North Peace Museum starting at 10:00 a.m.).

A Welcome Ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Mile Zero Post. The Congressional Medal Presentation will be made at 11:45 a.mTourism Dawson Creek will be sharing a commemorative cake starting at 12:15 p.m.
