Dawson Creek announces Festival to update its Official Community Plan

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The City of Dawson Creek has announced today that it will be hosting the Imagine: OCP Festival that will take place this weekend.

The City is hosting the festival July 7th – 9th so that it can get input form the community input for a review and update of the City’s Official Community Plan. Originally adopted in 2009, the Official Community Plan is a long-term planning document that helps shape the city’s future growth and development. The City says that the plan needs to be reviewed and updated to ensure that it aligns with the community’s vision for the future.

“Lots has happened over the last 10 years and we want to ensure that the guiding principles used by Council and staff reflect the community’s needs, desires, and ideas for the future”, said Dawson Creek’s City Planner Alex Wallace.

The entire Official Community Plan review and update process is slated to be completed and adopted by Council during the upcoming winter season. The City will review the Official Community Plan in the areas of:

  • Land Use and Growth Management
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage
  • Transportation and Infrastructure
  • Affordable Housing
  • Community Health, Wellness and Safety
  • Economic Development and Diversification

A number of different ways are available for Dawson Creek residents to get involved. Booths will be set up at three events throughout the Imagine: OCP Festival. On Friday, July 7th, there will be a booth at the Alaska Road Show at the Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., and at the Dawson Creek Co-op from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. for Summer Cruise Night 2017. On Sunday, July 9th, there will once again be a booth at Summer Cruise 2017 in front of the Lakeview Credit Union from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., as well as at the Dare to Dream Music Festival at the Kin Park Bowl from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

For those community members who are unable to attend, there will be other opportunities to engage throughout the month of July; including an online survey, an opportunity to meet with your City Planner, and community-led workshops.
