FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A volunteer with the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is holding a food drive for the Society’s Food Bank today.
Jamie Parsons is a volunteer member of the Society’s board, and also works as an Arbonne consultant, decided to put on the food drive after seeing firsthand about the lack of donations that the Society receives during the summer months. “The food pantry shelves are bare,” said Parsons. “On Wednesdays, within the first fifteen minutes of the pantry being open, the shelves are bare. This time of year, people are busy, we donate less.”
Parsons said that she’ll be out front of the Shoppers Drug Mart on 100th Street until 2:00 p.m. today taking donations of cash and non-perishable food items for the Food Bank. As part of the fundraiser, Parsons has also gotten donations from Crooked Corner Clothing, Soul Space Yoga, and Shoppers Drug Mart. Those prizes will be drawn from tickets that a minimum cash donation of $20 will get any donors.
The food drive is taking place today from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Parsons says that she also hopes to do more food drives throughout the summer.
