Forest Fire smoke expected in the B.C. Peace

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Ministry of Environment and Northern Health have issued a Smoky Skies Bulletin for the Peace and Williston Regions.

The bulletin includes Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge, Hudson’s Hope and MacKenzie due to wildfire smoke in the area.  The smoke is coming from forest fires in the Central Interior of B.C.  There are no fires in Northeast B.C.  Smoke concentrations will vary widely as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change.

Consider avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, contact your health care provider: difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, and sudden onset of cough or irritation of airways. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

This Bulletin will remain in effect until further notice.  Real-time air quality observations and information regarding the health effects of air pollution can be found at www.bcairquality.ca.
