FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – While most of the province has been seeing dry, hot weather and thunderstorms, Dawson Creek and Fort St. John also saw record temperatures for July 7.

Fort St. John hit a high of 27.3 degrees, which matched the record set back in 2010. Dawson Creek hit 28.4 which broke the previous record of 28.0 also in 2010.

Cindy Yu with Environment Canada says that it didn’t exactly last long, however.

“There is a band of low pressure that is moving across the northern parts of B.C., there are several bands of precipitation that we are dealing with this week. As you can already see, today is a cooler day. We’ve had some thunderstorms over the weekend and today is a quieter day but we are having cooler temperatures and we are also getting some southwest winds.”

Yu added that there are a few showers and risk of thunderstorms in the forecast for this week but mid to high 20’s could reappear come this weekend.

The normal temperature for this time of year according to Environment Canada is around 21 degrees.
