Inconnu swimmers get big finishes at AAA Provincials

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Six members of the Inconnu Swim Club were in Kamloops over the weekend competing in the Swim BC Long Course AAA Championships over the weekend.

12 year-old Tytan Carson and 13 year-old Cameron Louie were the only two Jr. High School-aged members of the club to compete at Provincials. Carson garnered a total of 23.5 points for the club, and competed in eight events. The 12 year-old finished 11th in the 100m Backstroke, 16th in both the 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle, 15th in the 100m Butterfly, and 5th in the 50m Freestyle. Louie made the finals twice, finishing 15th in the 100m Backstroke, and 5th in the 100m Breaststroke.

Cameron’s 15 year-old brother Eric Louie was the eldest of the three boys that competed at provincials. Louie made the finals three times, ending the weekend with a 7th place finish in the 100m Freestyle, 9th in the 100m Breaststroke, and 15th in the 200m Free.

The weekend seemed to be about Girl Power for the Inconnu, who were represented by Jayden Forster, Brittany Welsh, and Alex Hedges. Forster made three final events over the three days of the swim meet, placing 11th in the 100m Backstroke, 12th in the 200m Backstroke, and 15th in the 200m Breaststroke. Welsh had five finals appearances, and took 13th in the 200m Freestyle, 15th in the 100m Free, 10th in the 400m Free, 13th in the 800m Free, and 1st in the 50m Freestyle Swim-off event against Nanaimo’s Sarah Hopekirk.

Hedges was a powerhouse in the pool this past weekend. Only missing the finals once, she ended up finishing 16th in the 200m Freestyle, 12th in the 100m Freestyle, 3rd in the 50m Butterfly, 7th in the 100m Butterfly, and 1st in the 50m Freestyle.
