Major Highways closed throughout the Central Interior

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With over 200 forest fires burning throughout British Columbia, some major highways are closed.

With the majority of the fires in the Central Interior, there are major delays in roads in the area.  You can see a list of road closures below from drivebc.ca as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday July 9.

Since the forest fire situation is changing all the time, it’s best to visit www.drivebc.ca before you travel to see if there have been any changes.

Highways in Northeast B.C. are not affected by any of the forest fires.

Highway 1 Both directions Parks Canada is undertaking roadway rehabilitation and slope stabilization work in Glacier National Park on a 10 km section of highway from the East Boundary to Beaver Bridge, July 4 – late October, Monday – Friday from 5 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect speed reductions to 50 km/hour, and delays up to 20 minutes. Highway 1 on Vancouver Island Both directions Construction Highway 1 – Malahat between Shawnigan Lake Road and Aspen Road. Northbound right lane closure in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Intermittent traffic stoppages outside 6:00am and 9:00am Southbound, and 3:00pm to 6:00pm Northbound. Expect delays longer than 30 minutes. Watch for flaggers & construction speed zones.
