Severe thunderstorm warning issued for the Fort St. John area

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Fort St. John area.

As of 4:15 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.


Radar detects a cell west of Highway 97 moving toward the communities of Murdale, Montney and Rose Prairie. Large hail is possible with this storm as it moves northeast at 40 km/h.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
