TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. – The fire that caused the closure of Monkman Park is not threatening public safety or structures.
Fire Information Officer Amanda Reynolds says the closure of the park was precautionary and the decision was made by BC Parks.
“That fire is 8 kilometres west of Monkman Park and it is currently at 20 hectares. It’s not threatening any public safety or structures. BC Parks did close Monkman Park just due to the fact that if things did change, it is pretty backcountry and we didn’t want people to not have access to get out.”
Reyonalds adds that the fire is currently being monitored and no resources are currently deployed.
“We are expecting some precipitation over the weekend in that area but we don’t have any crews working on it as there are other priorities.”
