DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — All school buses serving Dawson Creek area schools have been cancelled this morning.
School District 59 Transportation Manager Jeff Lekstrom said that the decision was made to cancel all school buses serving schools in the Dawson Creek area because of the overnight windstorm that blew large snowdrifts onto side roads in the South Peace. Lekstrom explained that while not all side roads in the South Peace are covered in drifts, officials made the decision to cancel school buses all day Tuesday because there are no guarantees that roads which are passable this morning won’t be drifted in this afternoon.
Lekstrom added that all school buses serving schools in the Chetwynd area are currently running on time, as the topography in that area of the South Peace means roads are more sheltered. At this point, there’s no word on any school bus cancellations in the North Peace.
