FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Fire Department has extinguished a kitchen fire at the Sushi Heaven restaurant this morning.

Fire Chief Fred Burrows said firefighters were called out to the restaurant in the plaza next to No Frills in Fort St. John shortly after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Burrows said that upon arrival, firefighters discovered light smoke emanating from the restaurant. After entering the restaurant, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the restaurant’s kitchen, while the restaurant itself suffered minor fire damage.

Burrows explained that the building’s sprinkler system managed to help contain the fire, but was also activated inside the adjacent No Frills and Dollar Tree stores, causing minor water damage. Burrows explained that staff from both stores are assessing the extent of the water damage caused by the sprinkler system activation, and there’s no word on when either store will reopen.
