Speed skaters currently competing in National Junior Championships and Canada Cup #3

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Speed skaters from across Canada are currently competing in the National Junior Long Track Speed Skating Championships and Canada Cup #3 at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

A total of 129-speed skaters are participating in the two events with 90 junior skaters looking to secure spots for Team Canada at the 2018 ISU World Junior Championships in Salt Lake City, U.S.A in mid-March. Nearly 40 athletes will participate in the Canada Cup looking to earn points for their national rankings.

The Peace region is being represented by Dawson Creek skaters Jacob Graham and Hannah Brunn along with Dakotah Ruel of Pouce Coupe. The Elk Speed Skating Club’s very own Brook Braun, Yuna Lovell, Amanda Mitchell and Renee Kalkman will skate for the women’s side while Nicholas Guilov, Nyam Newlove and Joshua Telizyn will compete on the men’s side.

Friday saw the 500- and 1,500-metre races, Saturday has the 1,000-metre, 3,000- metre (women) and 5,000-metre (men). The final day will include the 500- and 1,000-metre distances as well as the mass start events.
