Inconnu Swim Club participates at WinterFest in Grande Prairie

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – We had a great weekend with a big group of 28 Inconnu swimmers competing at Winterfest in Grande Prairie. There was a total of 200 swimmers attending the swim meet.

There were no aggregate awards for this swim meet as it was geared towards getting swimmers into the long course season. A lot of our younger swimmers have never swam long course and they did fantastic. One swimmer, in particular, needs special recognition and that’s Monroe Mize, 7 years old.
Due to a timing problem, Monroe’s 200 freestyle time didn’t count! She had the option of swimming it again and she said yes. 200 freestyle is 4 lengths of the 50-meter pool (our home pool is 25 m long) and a tough race for even seasoned swimmers.
Not only did she swim the event again but she went 10 seconds faster. We were all so proud of her.
This swim meet’s focus was not about fast swimming but getting the long course experience and practicing racing techniques. I am very proud of our athletes and how they showed determination and team support this weekend.
Our next swim meet is in Vancouver for Winter Age Group Championship February 22 to the 24, 2019.
