FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Senior girls played Caledonia in the first game on Friday night, winning 76-26, led by Celine Quigley with 28 points. In the semifinal game against previously unbeaten PGSS, Claire Turner led the scoring with 11 points and 9 rebounds. The girls relied on tight team defence to beat PGSS with a final score of 60-42. In the Championship game, the team battled and never gave up until the last second of the game but ended up losing to Nechako Valley with a final score of 46-60. The Grizzlies had notable performances from Jordynn McPherson, Alexis Ziebart and Celine Quigley.
The Junior boys were in action once again this past weekend in Dawson Creek for their last warm-up tournament before Regionals. The Grizzlies got in three solid games over the weekend starting Friday night when they matched up against Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. The Grizzlies came out flat to start the game, which saw a tightly contested first half, and a Grizzlies three-point lead at half. In the second half the Grizzlies took control of the game playing strong defence and pushing the pace of the game to a quicker level. When the final buzzer sounded the Grizzlies took a convincing win with every member of the team getting on the score sheet in the game for the first time this season. The Grizzlies were in tough in the finals missing three players and needing big minutes from players off the bench. For the first time of the weekend, the boys started the game ready to play and came out fast to take an early lead. Dawson fought back with shot making and a quick transition game to take a lead at half time. The Grizzlies made a few adjustments and got big minutes from some of the bench in the second half and made a strong run at the Dawson team, but when the final buzzer sounded the boys took second place with an eight-point loss to the DCSS Junior Team.
