Winter Storm watch issued for the South Peace and Pine Pass

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – A winter storm watch has been issued for the South Peace and Pine Pass.

Environment Canada says a slow-moving front will move into Northern B.C. Thursday morning.  The snow could start Thursday night and continue until Saturday with some forecast models showing as much as 30 cm of snow.

In Fort St. John the forecast is also calling for a large amount of snow.  The North Peace could see up to 20 cm before the storm is over.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, and this winter storm watch may be upgraded to a warning as the forecast becomes more certain.

Winter storm watch issued for:
B.C. South Peace River, B.C. (087310)

Current details:
A long duration snowstorm is forecast to begin on Thursday…

A slow moving frontal system will spread snow across the B.C. central interior beginning Thursday morning. Snow is expected to continue falling Thursday night and Friday and will likely persist over some regions until the front moves into Alberta early Saturday. Current indications suggest that storm total snowfall amounts will range from 15 cm up to as high as 30 cm by Friday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, and this winter storm watch may be upgraded to a warning as the forecast becomes more certain.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
