FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Members of Interior Savings and Gulf & Fraser Credit Unions voted to merge the two companies this week.
Interior Savings members voted 87.8 percent in favour, and Gulf &Fraser members voted 80.7 per cent in favour. A minimum of 67 per cent from each credit union needed to be in favour for the merger to advance.
Voting opened on October 20th, and January 1st, 2024, will be the first day of the new credit union.
Each vote counted toward a donation to support wildfire recovery efforts, raising $25,000 for the United Way’s United for BC Wildfire Recover Fund.
This is Interior Savings’ second merger in a year after officially combining with North Peace Savings on July 1st.
Interior Savings Credit Union believes that by combining to form a province-wide credit union, the companies will be able to do more for members, employees and communities while maintaining personalized service and financial advice.
The bank says members can expect to see the same faces from the same branches across the province, as well as the same online banking tools with updates to come.
